Bad Actors Brisbane

Free group acting classes being planned for Cleveland

Bad Actors Brisbane is a proposed free group acting class for people aged 16 and over. The project is currently in the planning stage. Classes have not yet commenced, and the venue, starting date and session time are still to be confirmed.

The aim is to create an easygoing group where participants can practise scripts, improvisation and performance skills in a respectful and supportive environment.

You may register your interest below. Registering interest does not create an enrolment or guarantee that a class will proceed.

Participants may suggest age-appropriate scripts, improvisation exercises and group activities. All material and activities will be subject to the instructor's approval and the class code of conduct.

A note from Kyle

I became interested in creating Bad Actors Brisbane after attending a short acting course and thinking about how a community group could provide more opportunities for practical participation, experimentation and peer learning. My aim is to create a welcoming, low-pressure group in which participants can practise and learn together.

Proposed class activities

Sessions are intended to be group activities and may include:

  • practising suitable scripts and scenes;
  • age-appropriate improvisation games;
  • discussing and constructively reviewing film performances;
  • discussing acting and performance techniques; and
  • optional recording and review of performances under the filming-consent rules below.

Bad Actors Brisbane will not offer private or one-to-one coaching to participants under 18.

Status, venue and times

The project is still being planned. No classes have taken place and no venue, commencement date or regular time has been confirmed. The intended location is in the Cleveland area.

Classes involving anyone under 18 will not begin until a suitable venue, supervision arrangements, enrolment process and child-safety procedures are in place.

Age requirement and safety

Participants must be aged 16 or over.

A participant who is 16 or 17 may only attend after written consent has been received from their parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian will be the primary contact and may remain to observe the session.

The instructor will not conduct a session alone with a participant under 18. A parent, guardian or another suitable responsible adult must be present. If that arrangement is unavailable, the young person cannot participate in that session.

Sessions involving a participant under 18 will be group sessions. The instructor will not provide the young person with private transport, arrange private social meetings, or communicate privately without including their parent or guardian.

Activities and scripts must be appropriate for the youngest participant present. Participants must treat one another respectfully, respect personal boundaries and follow the instructor's safety directions. Alcohol, illicit drugs, impairment, harassment and threatening or sexualised conduct are not permitted.

Filming and publication

Participation does not require consent to filming or publication.

A performance will only be recorded with the participant's prior agreement. If the participant is under 18, separate written consent must also be obtained from their parent or legal guardian before each recording.

Recording a performance does not automatically permit publication. The participant—and, for a participant under 18, their parent or guardian—must be shown the proposed footage and separately approve its publication on the website or another identified platform.

A person may decline filming or publication without losing their ability to participate in the class. Recordings that are not approved for an agreed purpose will be securely deleted.

Register your interest

Use this form to express your interest in the proposed class. This is not an enrolment and does not guarantee that a class will proceed.

For a participant aged 16–17, communication will go to their parent or legal guardian or include them.
